Cowpokes gather from across the state, giving y’all a gallon’s shot of adrenaline as they clash head-to-head in traditional rodeo games: team roping, bareback riding, steer wrestling, and barrel racing, among others, in two hours of dust-kicking mayhem. Once the last bronco has bucked, the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo will proceed with a riveting concert special, courtesy of Southall.
The six-piece band, renowned for their brawny take on Southern rock standards, delivers rustic swagger through discography highlights such as “Gunshy,” “Clean Slate,” and 2017’s “Why” viral hit, with powerful additions from their self-titled fourth album. Ready for some music? Southall of Stillwater, Oklahoma, will punctuate the main event with freewheeling country rock anthems that pay homage to their Red Dirt roots. Fronted by the eponymous Read Southall, this six-part group is popularly known for their Borrowed Time (2017) album’s grungy smash hit, “Why.” Crowds will savor a distinctive Southern grit across the band’s track picks, expertly hopping between hard rock energy and idyllic back-porch vibes. Other songs high on fans’ anticipated set include “Gunshy” and “Keystone Clan” from Six String Sorrow (2015), hit single “Clean Slate” (2016), and standouts from Southall's new self-titled fourth album.
